DAY TWO
I don't know why this chicken crossed the road. Any Ideas?
Here was a really interesting one... donuts just aren't quite the same over here...
Another strange one was an interesting fruit called Durian. Follow this link and look under the "flavour and odour" section for a description. It gets mixed reviews, depending on if you like the taste of gym socks or not.
Here's a picture of me about to eat it, as it is assaulting my olfactory system.
My conclusion? It smells atrocious and tastes slightly better. It tastes kind of sweet, but you can taste the gym sock. There are certainly worse-tasting foods out there, but this one I would call highly undesirable.
Now, on a better note, Emily got me one of the cool snack things from a street vendor who comes by every night. It is really cool to watch them make... they fill a mold with green rice and filling, then steam the rice. Once it is done they top it with coconut. It was very good. Not even comparable to the Durian.
Emily and I did more than just eat all day, though. We started the morning by going to a spa! It was quite relaxing. It was especially nice after sitting on an airplane for three years. After that, Emily took me on a tour of the city. Well, our intention was to go see a famous bridge, buuuut... if you know anything about the combination of Emily and me plus directions, you can guess at what happened. So no bridges were seen, at least not any famous ones, but I loved driving around the island! Well, I wasn't driving... Emily was. But take a look at this picture:
See anything wrong? She's on the passenger side!! Except she's not. I am. But it's all backwards. I am so confused here.
People are crazy on their motorbikes here, btw. There is no way I could drive while trying to balance with all that stuff. But Emily is a pro at navigating the insanity, and she took me all over town. We also stopped by her office, where I snapped a photo of her in front of a company sign she designed. Good job Emily!!
i be jealous. i know you will do this anyway, but i feel the need to remind you: take TONS of photos (i want to see everything), eat ANYTHING (i want to hear all about it), and try ALMOST ANYTHING (we all have limits). wuv you, pal. have tons of fun.
