Be Prepared!

Hello all!

I have finally decided to update this blog. I have trouble getting projects started. But once I get going... I really get going! So be prepared!

BE PREPARED!
Yeah-heh...we'll be prepared, heh.
...For what?
For the death of the king.
Why? Is he sick?
No, fool--we're going to kill him. And Simba too.
Great idea! Who needs a king?
No king! No king! La la la la la laaa!
Idiots! There will be a king!
Hey, but you said, uh...
I will be king! ...Stick with me, and you'll never go hungry again!
Yay!!! Alright! Long live the king!

Ok, enough of that. Name that movie? THE LION KING! Woohoo. That's an all time fave of mine.

But really, I am getting prepared. For I am going to enter a battlefield this summer, literally and figuratively.

Things in Thailand have been crazy lately. It has been relatively calm where I am going in Chiang Mai, but Bangkok has been in political turmoil for well over a month now. Riots in the streets. Violent clashes of power. Ultimatums, protests, and chaos. The "Red Shirts" have been trying to get the Prime Minister to dissolve Parliament, and they have resorted to extreme measures to have their voices heard. The refusal of the Red-Shirts to disband has caused the military to get involved, resulting in violent clashes that have killed 71 people and injured over 1000. I'm not too sure about those numbers... I've been having a difficult time finding reliable sources on what the facts actually are. Today, the Red Shirt leaders surrendered after the military intervened, threatening to use force against all who refused to disband and resisted arrest. However, though leaders discouraged further action, the angry protesters turned to arson, torching twelve buildings, leaving "Bangkok in Shambles." I am keeping a close eye on the happenings in Thailand, praying for a peaceful end to the political unrest.

Spiritually, Thailand is also at war. This country is largely Buddhist; Buddhism and Thai culture are often seen as synonymous. Therefore, it can be difficult for Thais to see how they can embrace Christ and not turn their back on Thai culture. Less than one percent of the population is Christian. This is a dark country, and Satan has many strongholds. The sex industry is HUGE in Thailand; prostitution and sex slaves abound. The darkness has penetrated deeply, but praise be to God, nothing is beyond His power to redeem. God alone can bring about a revolution in this nation, and across the rest of our broken world, as well. Please join me in prayer that God will move in a mighty way in Thailand and beyond.

BUT, the great thing is that we don't have to be prepared for the death of THE King. The King of Kings. He is sovereign over all, and He can redeem even the most atrocious situations and bring glory to Himself as a result. There ain't nothing that can kill Him... and in the midst of the brokenness, turmoil, and confusion, we can confidently rest in that.

So be prepared. Be prepared to "Look at the nations and watch--and be utterly amazed. For [God is] going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told." (Habakkuk 1:5)

Long live the KING! :)
